Today was our first full day in Cape Town. We did a lot today. It first started out with a gondola ride up Table Mountain which is about 1000 km in height. It was spectacular with views of the entire city and out to the Atlantic and India oceans. From there we did a brief driving tour of the city which ended at the ferry terminal for our ride over to Robben Island. Robben Island is where the prison was located for all of the political prisoners during the apartheid era. This was the home of Nelson Mandela for 18 years. It was a very interesting and humbling experience. Soon we are off to dinner at a local resident's home. Here are a couple of pictures from today. The first is of the cell Nelson Mandela lived and on the second is of the view from the top of Table Mountain overlooking Cape Town (that's Robben Island in the distance).
